M. Hulot’s Visit at the Interpretation Center of Romanesque

pt O filme do Centro de Interpretação do Românico, em Lousada, cujo projecto foi desenhado pelo gabinete Spaceworkers e dirigido pela Building Pictures, utiliza como referência uma das personagens mais emblemáticas criadas pelo cineasta Jacques Tati, o Sr. Hulot. Com o seu espírito curioso, ele convida o espectador a acompanhá-lo nesta visita.

Este projecto destaca-se pela inspiração na história do românico, em Portugal, e pela posterior reinterpretação dessa influência de forma contemporânea.

O filme começa no exterior e segue o Sr. Hulot, a personagem principal, um misterioso indivíduo, muito focado nos detalhes, que nos guia até ao interior do edifício. Lá, Mr. Hulot percorre o espaço, sempre olhando de perto os materiais que encontra e avaliando as suas texturas.

Depois de entrar, ele dá por si dentro do corpo central, um espaço amplo e luminoso, que antecede a entrada nos diferentes volumes, de tamanhos e formas diversos. Esse corpo central, além de estabelecer uma conexão entre eles, traz de volta a ideia de um claustro na era medieval. Um espaço cheio de luz, monumentalidade e gerador de experiências de vida.

O Sr. Hulot continua a saltar de sala em sala, surpreendendo o espectador, que continua a descobrir esses compartimentos com ele. Em cada uma das salas, ele encontra experiências que apelam a diferentes sentidos, como uma maquete, um filme ou um painel interactivo.

Com a chegada da noite, o Sr. Hulot volta ao exterior para admirar o edifício e a sua iluminação. O filme termina quando o Sr.Hulot encontra uma varanda por onde ele espreita entre as sombras.

en The film of the Interpretation Centre of Romanesque, in Lousada, which project was designed by Spaceworkers and directed by Building Pictures, uses as inspiration one of the most iconic characters created by the film-maker Jacques Tati, Mr. Hulot. With his curious spirit, he invites the viewer to follow him on this visit.

This project stands out for its inspiration in the history of the Romanesque in Portugal, and for its later reinterpretation of that influence in a contemporaneous way.

The film starts on the outside and follows Mr. Hulot, the main character, a mysterious individual, very focused on details, that guide us to the interior of the building. There, Mr. Hulot roams through space, always taking a closer look at the materials he finds and feeling their textures.

After he enters the building, he finds himself within the central body, a wide and luminous space, that precedes the entrance to the different rooms, which are in diverse sizes and shapes. This central body, besides establishing a connection between them, brings back the idea of a cloister in the Medieval Age. The ambiance is full of light, monumentality, and a generator of life experiences.

Mr. Hulot keeps jumping from room to room, surprising the viewer, that keeps discovering them with him. In each one of them, he finds experiences that appeal to different senses, like a model, a film, or an interactive panel.

With the arrival of the night, Mr. Hulot comes back to the exterior to admire the building and its lighting. The film ends when Mr. Hulot finds a balcony from where he peeks between the shadows
